Gil Kane, a hero to many children of the Silver Age.  It was his art and mind, along with John Broome,  that gave us the greatest Green Lantern, Hal Jordan.  It was Kane, with Broome,  who further developed the concept of Green Lantern without ruining the original concept created by Mart Nodell.
Kane gave rich artwork to tell the story of the premeire agent of the Guardians of the Universe.  The mythos of the Green Lantern Corps was also brought to life.  All this was done without diminishing the work done by Mart Nodell in his original Green Lantern creation.
Gil Kane passed away in 2000.  He will be missed by many fans.
Return
Martin Nodell, the creator of Green Lantern.  He is the man who started it all.
In 1940, Nodell was asked by D.C. Comics editor Sheldon Mayer to create a new superhero to complement Batman and Superman.
While waiting for a subway on his way home, he witnessed a trainman signaling a train to continue ahead.  The trainman was using a green lantern to convey his message.  Thus, a hero, Alan Scott the golden age Green Lantern was created.

At "Heroes Convention 2000", I got to meet the man who started it all.  It was a thrilling experience to meet the man who was responcible for bringing the concept of Green Lantern to life.
If you get a chance to attend a comic convention where Mr. Nodell is appearing, you should find him and thank him for starting the Green Lantern mythos.
